Welcome to the WFP North Vancouver Island Public Advisory Group's official website.
This website represents the interests of two Public Advisory Groups. The Vancouver Island North Woodlands Advisory Group (VINWAG) and the Nimpkish Woodlands Advisory Committee (NWAC). The VINWAG represents the interests of the communities of Holberg, Winter Harbour, Port Alice, Port Hardy and Port McNeill; the NWAC represents the communities of Woss and Port McNeill. The Defined Forest Area for VINWAG includes TFLs 6, 39 Block 4, Managed Forests 29, 31 and 61 and other related licenses. The Defined Forest Area for NWAC includes TFL 37. A map with the Defined Forest Area is included within the NVI Area tab within this website.
The CSA Standard requires a significant level of public participation to assist in developing a Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) for certification. The SFMP contains Indicators and targets; the targets are set by the public advisory groups . The public advisory groups continue to meet at least twice per year.
The vision of WFP’s Public Advisory Groups is to ensure that sustainable forest management decisions are made as a result of informed, inclusive and fair consultation with local people who are directly affected by or have an interest in Sustainable Forest Management (SFM). The NWAC/VINWAG represents the diverse range of interests in the Defined Forest Area as related to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) forest certification.
